So, I decided to go off the diving board at the local pool, and tried everything! Nose plugs, holding my nose, ect. to keep the water out of my nose and away from my throat. If I swallow it, my throat burns and it becomes very painful for a long time, and I become light-headed. It happens at every pool, and there's nothing wrong with the chloreine (spelling?). Anyways, that's not the point.

THE POINT IS:

How do you keep your nose clear of water when diving? No plugs, no holding your nose, just diving in. I was told to keep blowing out, but that doesn't help, because I run out of breath easy, even when steadily keeping it coming out, not all in one big exhale.

How do you do it?

Ouch, makes my nose and throat hurt just reading it. Whenever pool water with the chlorine goes into my nose, it goes right down my throat, in which case I start choking. This is why I avoid the pool, aside from the fact that I burn in 10 minutes and don't tan, just peel, and oh yeah, I can't swim.

Um...let's see, to keep water out of your nose without holding it, I have no idea. Stubborn water...

breathe/blow out of your nose is probably the best way to do it as you mentioned, probably gotta do it more slowly

What superraptors said. When you hit the water you slowly breathe out of your nose. Aside from that, you just eventually cope with it.

I have a much harder time keeping it out of my ears and I end up with 'swimmer's ear.' Just happened to me a couple days ago and I still can't hear out of my left ear.

Enjoy normal lung capacity, blow air out of your nose when you hit the water and begin to emerge. Or wear masks that block your nose, wear them tight and make sure they don't have a small hole to leak through.

yea just breathe out a little, that's what i do (i swam competitively for many years). after a while i just started drinking the water anyway, so i guess that doesn't really help much lol.

just whatever you do, don't resort to wearing those dorky goggles that cover your eyes AND nose LOL.

Yeah just breath the tiniest amount out, It's a reflex for me now but you just gotta breath out, diving boards is fun so you need to learn

1) the more you practice, the more you will get use to it, thats the base of it in the water

2)Blowing air is the best way, but personaly, I just blow a few bubble to basicly fill my nose with air, you don't need a steady stream, enough so no water go into

3) practice, there is no "best" way in swimming, only better, so keep trying until you find a technique that you find your self comfortable with

Practice, practice, practice. Just not by diving. Go to the shallow end(or your tub) and practice breathing out until you're comfortable doing so. Then work your way back up to diving.

I used to get that when i swam before. Once i had that for a couple days, when i finally got it out (by using my little finger and popping the ear) out comes the most disgusting smelling ear wax.

Hope i didn't make anyone lose their appetites.

get some paroxide (spelling?) and wash it out, thats why my brother and I do.

Is 'swimmer's ear' that water blockage you get after submerging? For that, I step out of the pool, relax my whole body then jump up and down and let the shockwaves from the jumping break up the block. Then I feel the warm trickle down my cheek and can hear properly once more. It's a great relief.

As for diving, I keep my mouth shut and expel a heavy blow of air through my nose to counteract the rush trying to get in as I impact the water. It's not always successful but it's something.

I dunno,but when I go into the water i can block something in my nose so no water can come through.
